Ear Lobe Repair

Earlobe repair is quickly becoming one of the most requested procedures

People are increasingly coming in to have their earlobes fixed. Some people have waited years to have their earlobes repaired. Some people have taken off their gauges or hefty earrings, and while the soft tissue has reduced slightly, there is still a large hole.

Causes:

  • Elongated or split ear lobes can be caused by many things

  • Heavy earrings worn over long period of times

  • Earing getting caught and then pulled

  • Children pulling on earrings

  • Sudden trauma

Procedures:

Earlobe repairs are done as an outpatient, under local anesthesia. The excess skin is removed. Tissue may be rotated depending on the individual issue. The wound is then closed in layers, to take tension off the outer part of the incision. There is usually a fine scar when all healed.

Re-piercing

Typically, we ask our patients to wait at least one month before re-piercing their ear. We also ask that the new piercing be at least 3mm from the old piercing site.
